SWBAT develop a deeper understanding of the characteristics of civil and criminal lawsuits, as well as pick out key differences in a news story and determine the type of case from those clues.

Classwork:
Access the Types of Cases Reading in the Resource Folder and use it to complete the Types of Cases Assignment in Schoology. In part 1, you will read and compare two current news stories then summarize the main differences between civil and criminal lawsuits. In part 2, you will use the fact sheet to differentiate between federal and state court cases. Upon completion of the written portion of this activity, students will apply what they learned to new scenarios.
