Objective:
SWBAT analyze the advantages and disadvantages of discussing current and contested issues, as well as describe strategies for maximizing the advantages and minimizing the disadvantages.
Warm-up:
Use the Post It Notes to create a T Chart. On one sheet list the disadvantages of discussing current and contested issues in class and on the other sheet list the advantages. Once you have created an exhaustive list, prioritize your notes, identifying the top three for each category.
Classwork:
On a separate (third) sheet of paper, with your priorities in mind, describe norms for discussion that would maximize advantages and minimize disadvantages. We are using your lists to establish Classroom Norms for Discussing Current and Contested Issues.
