Warm-up:
Based on what you know about the Executive Branch respond to the following scenarios:
1. Congress passed a bill that the President does not support. What can he do to stop the bill from becoming law? What power does Congress have to "check" the President?
2. When I was in high school, Three Mile Island, a nuclear energy plant, had some "technical difficulties" which made not only the surrounding community of Middleton, PA worried, but the entire nation worried. As a result, the Nuclear Regulatory Agency (an executive agency) came up with new rules, which brought about sweeping changes involving emergency response. Why?
3. You are the President of the United States. We are in need of money and you are getting pressure to do something to help. If your choices were to raise taxes or sell Mt. Rushmore and the Grand Canyon what would you do? Would you consider other options? What would they be?
